    Charlie Smith, a fifth-generation Los Angeles native, can usually be found whispering snarky advice in a friend's ear, impressing innocents with parlor tricks, surfing in a neon wetsuit, writing misguided manifestos, or winning at darts and ping pong. Being a self-described Scorpio, he left his grandmother's 20s-era pool house in Windsor Square, where he conducted most of his business via speaker phone while listening to doo-wop vinyls and pruning the succulents, for life in the parched golden hills of California's central coast. After two years as a rural postman he opened an independent contemporary art space where he curates solo shows for California artists.
