    250 Great American Things

We are honoring the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by gathering a raft of some of America’s finest essayists, humorists, fiction writers, and other prose stylists and wise-asses to remind us of what makes America great.

    Mission Statement

Hard Cider Press is a back-of-the-barn operation run by the editors and publisher of County Highway. The Press was founded in 1887 when our original editors sought to meet demand for a local Almanac. The first printing of the Almanac is said to have been bound together with glue made from the hooves of the Editor-in-Chief’s favorite horse, Thaddeus, following his exposure outdoors during a thunder-storm.

Over the following decades, the profitability of the Almanac led to a sideline in publishing such locally-beloved works as The Sermons of Dr. Alcatraz, Nettles, Berries and Other Home Remedies, The Silver Hoax, The Horseless Carriage and Its Foes, and Underground Lakes and Rivers of Mars, copies of which can be found on bookshelves throughout the County.

We aim to continue in the tradition of our predecessors by publishing works of popular interest under the Hard Cider imprint while taking no responsibility for offensive language or other inappropriate content, which remain solely the responsibility of our authors.
